  Tomaszów Lubelski Commune Drukuj

Located in a beautiful scenic area of the Central and Southern Glen (Roztocze Środkowe, Południowe) and Grzęda Sokalska commune, this region is valued for a number of natural and tourist reasons. The most interesting sculpture of the area is in the limestone massif of Biała Góra (349.2 metres above sea level) where the medieval settlement (identified with the Grody Czerwieńskie stronghold) of Medno was located. The northern slopes of the mountain are of ecological interest (33.7 hectares) in that they contain a unique xerothermic plant community. Close to the village of Justynówka there is a ski lift which operates during the winter. The River Huczwa finds its source at the foot of the mountain.

The green "Historical" route runs from here to the legendary "Little Inferno" geological reserve (1.24 hectares), where it is said that the Devil himself scattered about huge boulders.

Just beyond the western turnpike of Tomaszów Lubelski, next to the black "Partisan" route the Grey Valley is located in the woods. It is this way that the nature-education path leads. If one decides to wander the blue Central Glen Route he will eventually reach the wood reserve "Thickets" (64.02 hectares). Continuing the route beyond Ulów village one will reach the hill of Wapielnia (386.5 metres), the tallest peak in the commune and the Central Glen.

The red "Liberty" route from Tomaszów Lubelski to Hrebenne leads to the picturesque complex of ponds in the Sołokija Valley near Łaszczówka village.

The commune contains a range of important architectural monuments, including a Neo-Baroque parish church (Podhorce, 1926) with some interior furnishings dating back to the 18th century, a church built in 1918 in Szarowola, St Jack's Chapel (1810) and the chapel of St John Nepomucen and Our Lady (c. 1900). There is also a wooden structure manor outbuilding (c. 1920) in Majdan Górny, a manor granary (late 19th century) and landscaped park (18th century, Rogóźno), and a number of wooden houses and enclosures in Jeziernia, Pasieki, Podhorce and Ruda Żelazna. The area also contains industrial buildings located in Jeziernia (forge, 1930), Sabaudia (brick-yard, 1910 and 1935), Typina (mill. c.1930)
